Coimbatore, also known as Kovai is situated at the foot hills of Nilgiris. Coimbatore is a tier II city and is mainly known for its industries. There are more than 5000 textile mills and the natural conditions in Coimbatore are very condusive for agriculture, mainly for cotton. Hence Coimbatore is also known as Textile City. Owing to its wide spectrum of manufacturing industries, Coimbatore is also know as the Manchester of South India. Besides textiles many other products like pumps, motors, automobile spare parts, castings, plastic moulds are manufactured here and exported all over the world.
Coimbatore is now becoming an important hub for Health and Education. Various world renowned Speciality Medical Centres are in Coimbatore catering to patients from all over India and abroad. Many big educational universities and colleges are situated in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore is surrounded by many temples like Maruthamalai and Perur. The famous hill station Ooty also known as "Queen of Hills" is only 3 hours away from Coimbatore by road.
